The selection of the new melsanthi for Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple and Malikappuram Devi temple will be held here on the first day of Malayalam month of Thulam on October 18. The selection of the new melsanthi by drawing lots will be conducted under the supervision of Sabarimala special commissioner K Babu, appointed by the Kerala High Court in front of the Sreekovil after the Usha Pooja at 8 am on October 18. Nine melsanthi aspirants are already shortlisted for the Sabarimala temple by a panel, comprising Travancore Devaswom Board president M P Govindan Nair, members Sabhash Vasu and P K Kumaran, devaswom commissioner P Venugopal and the thantri at an interview held at the TDB headquarters on October 9 and 10. The nine aspirants for the new Sabarimala melsanthi include E N Krishnadas Nampoothiri, Ezhikode Mana in Thrissur; M P Krishnan Nampoothiri, Marangattu Illam, Karamana, Thiruvananthapuram; T K Sreedharan Nampoothiri Thottasseri Illam, Kavumbhagom, Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta; Manoj P E, Kuravannur Edakkattu Illam, Mundackal, Kozhikode; S Kesavan Nampoothiri, Cheruthana Madom, Mavelikara, Alappuzha; Muralidharan T M, Piyannur Mana, Shoranur, Palakkad; K Narayanan Nampoothiri, Kadavakkad Illam, Thodupuzha, Idukki; Ajayakrishnan M B, Athira House, Mararikulam, Alappuzha and Mahesh P N , Puttillathumana, Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam.
The five-member list of aspirants for Malikappuram melsanthi includes four among the shortlisted list for the Sabarimala melsanthi, Manoj P E, Kuravannur Illam, Mundackal, S Kesavan Nampoothiri, Cheruthana Madom, Mavelikara, Mahesh P N, Puttillathumana, Muvattupuzha, Ajayakrishnan, Athira House, Mararikulam and N K Raman Nampoothiri, Nadarni Mana, Kallettinkara, Chalakudi, Thrissur. The new melsanthi for Sabarimala and Malikappuram temple for a one-year term will take charge on the first day of Mandala pooja season on November 17.
